Lying at an altitude of 925 metres above sea level, Bansko is an all year round resort. A new gondola lift takes skiers from the town to the main ski area at around 2,000 metres. A second one is planned. The highest lift takes you to an altitude of 2,500 metres. There are plenty of runs for alpine and cross-country skiers. Off-piste boarders and skiers are also spoilt for choice.
The ski season lasts for approximately 5 months and summer activities include: horse-riding, trekking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, paragliding, white water rafting, etc. Spa facilities and 2 golf courses are being constructed.
Bansko has 120 cultural monuments and lies at the foothills of the Pirin Mountains, a nature reserve included in the World Heritage List.
